Final Day in New York

 I managed to get to the bagel shop early this morning where there was no line.

Didn’t really take pics today because Bailyn was Christmas shopping. Wouldn’t want to let the cat out of the bag with photos of shops 🤣  

I did take a photo of the skyline of New York as we were heading to the airport.
Also got a shot of this restroom for female, male and can’t decide. 
And last photo at the airport waiting to board. 

Uh oh. They just announced that our flight will be delayed due to maintenance. 🙁

Advent for today. 

“The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, ‘Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.’”
– John 1:29

“Advent realigns our hearts toward wonder. We marvel anew at the climactic moment of history when God took on flesh and dwelt amongst us. But secular sirens draw our attention elsewhere through images of snowfalls and jingle bells. 

God has blessed Handel’s Messiah as an antidote to help with Advent’s realignment process. Verses, phrases, and words from Scripture receive treatments that allow our minds and hearts (and voices!) to meditate on the ultimate as we live amidst the mundane.

One meditation-worthy phrase in this drama is John the Baptist’s announcement, ‘Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.’ God inspired John similarly to the prophets. How else could John know such a remarkable truth? A son of a carpenter from Nazareth, born in obscure Bethlehem, would soon die a sacrificial death. And God gave John the image of a lamb to awaken us to that wonder.

Only after we read all of Scripture and see ‘the lamb who was slain’ (see Rev. 5:12) do we encounter all that the Christmas story has to tell.

Lamb of God, tune our hearts toward wonder this Advent so we may truly sing in celebration, ‘Joy to the world. The Lord is come. Let earth receive her king.’” Amen.

  Jo Anne texted me about three days after I got home from Scandinavia and asked if I wanted to go to New York for the Christmas Markets. I said, “well yeah!” So here we are.  New York is completely socked in.  It finally cleared just a little bit as we came in for the landing.  Waiting, waiting, waiting on bags to come.  A few decorations in the airport.  Jo Anne in front of FAO Schwartz in the airport.  This is our room at the POD Hotel. A Seredipitous Day

Serendipitous: making unexpected and fortunate discoveries; the gift of finding valuable or agreeable things not looked for.  Drinking my tea this morning to the sounds of taxi cabs honking and the site of people scurrying to work under umbrellas in the rain brings back memories of me doing the same not so many years ago. The sights and sounds and smells of the city are unlike any other. Not that I would trade the smell of trees and quiet solitude of my country home to come back to this on a permanent basis but it’s fun for a visit.  We took our time getting ready and out the door this morning in hopes of the rain stopping. There was just a light drizzle as we left the hotel in search of a light breakfast. As we walked toward Central Park, we noticed this little bakery/cafe and decided to try it.  A gingerbread muffin and cinnamon challah bun. They were amazing! Clear Skies

It’s a beautiful day with sun shining, 33° and 7 mph winds.   The sun reflecting off the buildings on the Jersey side of the Hudson River No rain or umbrellas on the streets today 😁.  We signed up for a Holiday Entertaining: Hors D’oeuvres cooking class at 10 this morning.  We made: *Olive oil crackers with smoked salmon and creme fraiche  *Mini beef wellingtons with mushroom duxelle *Caramelized onion and Gruyère tartlet *Crostini with roasted butternut squash purée, honey and manchego Rolling out the pastry for the wellingtons Sautéing the mushrooms for the duxelle Searing the beef  Preparing the pastry for the tartlets  Not too pretty but they tasted good After our 2 hour cooking class we walked over to St. Patrick’s Cathedral to listen to a concert by the Capital Arts Children’s Choir from London and the Manhattan Singers.  We ended up getting there in time for mass which was quite interesting.
